We were delighted to be joined at the launch of our new Patrons Club by our former Prime Minister The Rt Hon David Cameron who gave a compelling speech on why Conservatives should support international development. He talked about the moral case for supporting aid, why it is our national interest and mentioned the Conservative Party's international social action project, and how "today because of our help, in Rwanda and Sierra Leone, our volunteers have helped to change and save lives".
Cameron said, "Conservatives have led the debate on aid and we are the best party when it comes to spending money on development because of our values and commitment to value for money. But international development has never been need of greater friends than now so I encourage all of you to support CFID".
We were also joined by Sir Desmond Swayne MP, our new Chair, and DFID Minister Lord Bates and many other Parliamentarians.
